As many Tampa residents are likely aware, suffering from a brain injury can often be an incredibly debilitating incident. The good news is that the amount of recovery that can be made, such as was the case of former Representative Gabrielle Giffords, would certainly be enough to even shock a seasoned brain injury attorney.
Representative Giffords' husband recently spoke during a traumatic brain injury conference where the audience was made up mostly of doctors. He discussed his wife's brain injury and the difficult times that surrounded the incident. However, he also discussed his own past and how he became an accomplished astronaut. He stated that he had to overcome a "lack of aptitude" and worked extremely hard to get where he was and that he never gave up. He also urged doctors to show the same type of dedication to study the science of brain rehabilitation.
Oftentimes, when someone suffers from a head injury, the extent of the damage is difficult to measure right away. Even some of the most traumatic injuries could have long-lasting effects that could affect the victim for a lifetime. For that reason, it is important to seek out treatment immediately after an accident. However, when it comes to the medical bills and long-term treatment, it may be helpful to discuss other options, up to and including a lawsuit. This may be a way for the victim to get reimbursed for a variety of expenses. In addition, it gives the victim the best chance of getting the care that is needed, no matter how long that care must be given.
Dealing with a brain injury is an incredibly difficult task not just for the victim, but family members as well. Seeking out assistance is often the best first step to take to try and help the victim recover to the greatest extent possible.
